First Day Social Problems Trivia
I ask my students whether these are true or false on the first day as a preview of what they will learn over the semester
1. Men over 6’2 earn 12% more as a starting salary than those under 6’0.
2. The US spends the 3rd most on health insurance of any industrialized nation ($776 billion annually) and as a result its health system was ranked the highest by the World Health Organization (based upon on a number of health-related variables).
3. What is one ingredient that can be found in all of these industrial products: steak, chicken, eggs, salmon, milk, CocaCola, frozen waffles, mustard, mayonnaise and cardboard?
4. One in Four Americans over the age of 25 is overweight.
5. There is enough food to feed everyone in the world.
6. On average, high income students have a six-year college graduation rate of 77% as compared to low income students who have a 54% rate.
